Beginnings
Eric Hall and Phil Garland founded carbon spar manufacturers, Hall Spars, in 1980. The company specialises in the design and production of proven quality carbon fibre masts, booms and components.
At Hall Spars, we have worked with carbon since 1984 and autoclave curing since 1992 and there is no other spar maker that comes close to our experience and expertise. This experience, paired with a desire to strive for the best, translates into the proven excellence that we have today.

The Hall Spars team
Our Milestones
Over four decades of production, we have reached many major milestones. In 2002 we created the largest carbon mast ever produced, 182 feet in length, for Baltic 147 Visione. This took a year-and-a-half to design and build. In March 2003, Alinghi won the America’s Cup with a Hall Spars rig. In 2005, the company produced its first mast for the Volvo Round the World Ocean Race to Paul Cayard and his team Pirates of the Caribbean.
In addition to being carbon spar manufacturers, Hall Spars also branched out to creating carbon products outside of the marine world. We made the ultra-light Human Powered Aircraft for the Projet Pégase team in 2011. Whilst in 2012 we created our first hydro-kinetic turbine and carbon satellite dish.
Above all, our company prides itself on providing the best product thanks to years of development and it is in the company’s DNA to constantly evolve. Using one of the largest mast design databases in the industry we are always trying to improve our products through continuous research, innovation and development.
Today
Our operations now extend to three corners of the globe and we have centres in the Netherlands, USA, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. With our acquisition by North Technology Group in 2017, Hall Spars has added stability and expertise. Within the Group, our customers benefit from receiving a complete rig package. We work together with owners, designers, yards, and sailmakers to provide a fully optimised rig to the owners exact needs.
